I have been welding as a hobby for about 20 years. I own lots of helmets including a Miller higher end Elite series auto-darkening helmet. It's a great helmet however I don't like the view through the the helmet when I'm working in my shop. It is a bit dark for me indoors before striking an arc. Outside it's perfect.
I purchased an Accustrike helmet from http://www.accustrike.com/ and I could't be happier. It's chin operated and works great. When the welding lens holder lifts, I'm looking through clear glass at my work. Lower my chin and strike an arc. It becomes second nature in a short time.

I just wanted to share this with you as a very good alternative to auto-darkening helmets.

Dark Before the Arc not after like auto darkening hemets.
