The latest news from Atomic Zombie

April 5, 2012

Welcome to our new look! It has taken us a long time to get the new site organized, and we hope that you like the new layout.

We plan to add a Search function soon.

The Builders Gallery will be getting a facelift, too. We are working on new gallery software that will allow our bike building community to upload their own photos.

Stay up-to-date with the latest AZ news by subscribing to our newsletter (see above) and news feed (http://feeds.feedburner.com/blogspot/qcYA).

Thanks for the feedback, and stay tuned for many new Atomic Zombie adventures coming soon.

Cool new site- Where is the "for sale" section going to be? The chopper axles and freewheel hubs that have been mentioned recently?

... still up after 20 hours. That's what happens when you send a bike builder to do a nerd's job!

We will add a "Parts" menu once we have inventory to offer.

Hi Kat and Brad,
Just wanted to add my props to the congratulations on the new web site look. I have not explored every nook and cranny yet, but so far it looks great.

Also wanted to say what great news it is that you'll be sourcing some of the parts requiring the services of a machinist. I know these are a stumbling block for some builders (myself included, although I did eventually find freehub adapters), and this will make building a new creation from your plans just that much easier.

When I first ran into difficulties finding the freehub adapters, I went to several of the many hundreds of machine shops here in Edmonton. (There are hundreds of them because Edmonton is the center of the manufacture and supply side for oilfield and drilling equipment fabrication and repair). The smallest _minimum_ order I could find was 1000 units at roughly $15 a pop. Fewer than that and no shop was interested.

Unfortunately, being retired and poor, my budget did not run to placing an order like that, even though I suspected I could probably sell some to fellow AZ builders. I then found a source on the internet for 5/8" shaft freehub adapters. I wanted to order a quantity and pass them on at cost to the AZ community, but the supplier (after selling me 3) said that they were now out of stock and had no plans to bring in more. So, reluctantly, I gave up the idea of becoming a supplier/middleman.

So, it's great news that you will be offering these parts, and I'm sure many future builders will breathe a sigh of relief knowing that they are readily available.

Best regards, and congratulations on all the work that has gone into the new site.

Kodos on the new site.

Great job. I know that is a lot of mental stress and work, especially when one kind of hacking is not the kind of hacking that you prefer.

Thanks for the positive support!
Only had one glitch on launch, but it was just a typo in the 400+ lines of ASPX code I wrote.
You can ride a bike with 2 missing bolts, a broken spoke, and a dent in the frame, but a computer will barf with just one bracket out of place in the code!

Ah, yes - you laugh but we have both felt the wrath of the machine! Some days I feel like going back to an etch-a-sketch. To reboot, I just turn it over and shake. For some reason this fails to improve anything on my current computer, but I have tried, oh yes, I have tried!

I've tried the window approach as well -- you know, throw it out the nearest window......

I like the new look! Much easier to send people links to each bike, now that they are their own pages.

Good one.

Great new site, and I really like the separate pages for each plan - easier to follow especially when visiting for the first time.

Thank you for the upgrade!

Thanks again! Now we are working on a forum upgrade to allow full member managed galleries. Getting a 700mb SQL database from here to the new server is a REAL task! I have SSH access to the new host, but the SQL commands seem to fail when I try a restore. This is going to be another week of sleepless nights... I can feel it coming!
