View Full Version : Rear axle bolt up

I'm working on mounting my rear axle pillow block bearings on my quad. The rear end is going to be like the kyoto. Here's my quandary. My bearing have 1/2" wide slots for mounting holes. I feel like 1/2" bolts are overkill, and would be add unnecessary weight. I'd rather go with 3/8" bolts. My fear is that if I go with smaller bolts I could never unbolt the pillow blocks because I could never get the axle lined back up again. On the other hand, 1/2" holes is pretty significant in 1.5" tubing. I guess I could make some sort of collar to go over the bolt, or I could paint the frame, bolt it up and hope to never have to unbolt it. Any suggestions?

weld a 3/8" washer over the hole,?

Or do what I do when I build the DeltaWolves; have a long piece of axle materiel that you can put all four pillow blocks on when you attach them to the frame -- viola! all will be in alignment.
