Kia Ora,
Has anyone played around with a F & P smart drive motor? I have a couple sitting here, don't need a generator and think they would be great as motivation for an electric trike or boat. If I can suss this out perhaps an electric boat that I can tow with an electric trike?
Any and all info or constructive input would be welcome.

To help your ideas get out & get your creative juices flowing:

how are you going to power the 120/240V motors?

The easiest would be with an inverter, about 80% efficiency
The slow, more efficient way would be to rewind the motor for a lower voltage.

I have one here that will eventually become a wind charger.
I know they re arrange the wiring for the alternator to get lower output voltage. Guess the same could be done for motor to run at lower volts.

you could put 3 of these in series.

I have limited time to access the inter-web these days but do know there are CNC routers and mills that have been built using these, running on 12V or 24V. Basicly controlled as a BIG stepper motor. I believe original Voltage was 55V,(what the motor saw). Just thought I'd ask as I see little point re-inventing the wheel unless I'm going to go sideways.
Place up the road from me has been turning them into generators for years http://www.ecoinnovation.co.nz/

Just went for a look, see sites changed a lot since last visit, will leave till I get time .
