i was reading the plans and it said instead of having a a freehub adapter made "you could
actually weld half a rear hub directly to the axle in order to mount the freehub." i asking the people who built their DR if they took this route and how did it work out.

The freehub will screw onto the left cup from a 3 piece bottom bracket.
Many people use them instead of half a rear hub.

thanks ken will. did you weld yours from both the inside and the outside the ring? i hope the gas torch is not too hot for this part.

I just welded the outside.
The first one that I did, I spent too much time and heat in one spot and it distorted.
The second one, I did a little in one spot, then a little on the opposite spot, then at 90 degrees, then opposite 90 degrees etc.
