I was wondering if anyone has ever tried flux core wire for more intricate stick welding operations. Is this even possible? If this seems like it might be a good Idea I'll get a spool and play around a little.....one of my many hair-brained schemes!!!

Sounds like you are trying for a poor mans tig. I think you will be happier with a proper wirefeed mig. $100 at HF with online coupon this weekend.

I don't think you would be able to maintain an arc with flux core wire. I think it would burn faster than you could adjust your distance. But I would like to see someone try it.

nothing takes the place of experimentation.
Looking forward to the results.
I dont think it will work but would love to be proved wrong.

Nothing?? Come on now, that's far from true. I can name several perfectly good substitutes for experimentation off the top of my head: Calculation, speculation, conjecture, confabulation, fantasy, faith, assumption, misinformation, disinformation...
