Hey i traded cylinders at a welding supply store today. Got back an acetylene tank with what looks like no adjusting knob. I'm fairly new to all things oxy/ace, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to open this tank.

Here's a pic of what I'm tlaking about.

Soooo... What do i do to get this thing flowing?

End noob whining. Also .. I want to let you know, no I will not in fact be blowing myself up in the process here.

There should be a valve handle on that pointed piece with the blue dot, thats how you crack the cylinder, to blow out dirt. The threaded part is what you attach your regulator onto.

Looks like the valve handle fell off somewhere.

Clamp on a pair of Vise Grips and you are good to go.

if you type "welding wrench" in on eBay you will see the combo wrench will have a square hole for turning the valve.

Kinda old school. Welders always have that tool.

Looks as though someone already did the Vice Grips trick.

Vice Grips are great - instant replacement for door handles, faucet knobs, pot handles, etc, etc.

On brass though - be careful you don't mess it up too much more than it is. :\
