View Full Version : wheel size vs. rider size

I was going to build 2 high rollers for my kids but all donor bikes have 27 inch wheels. Kids are 5' 2" AND 4'9". Should I change track and build two tadpoles with 27" tires or try to find 20" tires? So far I have scored 4 bikes, 3 from freecycle and one from craigslist for $30 and have 2 more available with 27 inch tires. Anyone have wheel size to rider size issues.

Looks like you will need 20 inch rims, at least on the front.

My daughters HighRoller was made with 24" mountain bike wheels. The seat is roughly 23" off the ground and is 9" wide at the widest. Beki is 5'-4" tall and she can touch the ground ok. Hope this helps.

Like Brad says put a 20" on the front. Put a 24" on the the back. I said that.

The Bacchetta High Racers have similar geometry to the High Roller. You may find this fitting guide (along with the recommended X-Seam measurements for each of their bikes, on the Bacchetta site to be of use:
