...so I stopped at Fastenal today, on my way to get groceries.
Picked up a few 3/8-24 bolts to use on steering linkage rods.

Problem is, all they had 'em in, was grade 8!

So.... any problems welding grade 8 bolts to my mild steel 3/8 rod?

I wouldn't weld G8 bolts to be used in an axle, the steel could be brittle after welding. After welding, let them cool slowly - no quenching or fan.

Brad I have a cart I built for hauling airconditioners . I hand built the front hubs and used G8 bolts for axles it regularly see's 400 + pound loads over rough yards still going strong. I would aree let them cool down naturally and dont quench them .
